Justin Nilson, CPA

For over a decade, Justin Nilson has developed a deep understanding of auditing local governments and schools in Minnesota. An impressive 90 percent of his billable time is dedicated to governmental clients, highlighting his expertise and commitment in this arena.

Justin’s proficiency extends to strategic planning for municipal governments, with a specific focus on long-term financial plans. He has a knack for developing effective models for various municipal government-specific areas including utility rate, tax levy, and debt analysis, ensuring our clients are always a step ahead.

Justin is also a firm believer in improving internal processes and efficiency. He actively participates in numerous internal task forces aimed at developing streamlined processes and innovative efficiency tools. This includes lending his skills and insights to internal initiatives around recruiting and technology.

What would you be doing if you weren’t an accountant?

If I hadn’t found my path in accounting, I believe I’d be outside working landscaping or lawncare. I just really enjoy being outdoors.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two young boys – doing anything other than sitting still! We enjoy going on bike rides, walks, 4-wheeler rides, and anything sports or outdoors.

What’s your favorite part about being an accountant?

I love getting up every day knowing that my day is exciting and unpredictable. Every day is a new challenge and our job changes rapidly with the environment and technology.
