Cyber Security Awareness Month: A reminder of “smishing”
October 17, 2022
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The IRS recently warned the public of scams called “smishing” that use texts to steal personal information or download malicious code to a phone. The IRS states it will never contact you by text. Therefore, any text claiming to be from the IRS is a scam. You can help IRS security professionals track and disrupt these scams. If you receive such a text, send an email to phishing@irs.gov. Copy and paste the caller ID number or email address into the email or use screenshots. Include the exact date, time, time zone and the phone number that received the message and send the email to the IRS. Click here to learn more.
