Why We’re Here: Helping Clients Make the Right Call

Recently, we were inspired by Simon Sinek, author of “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action,” to define the “why” behind our role as a CPA firm:

“We’re here because business owners and governments need solutions to their challenges — not a commodity product. Through our dedication to teamwork, development and relationships, we will help our clients thrive.”

The following is part of a series illustrating our “why.” 

When a husband and wife were weighing the purchase of a business, they found themselves in a predicament. The business for sale was a fitness gym that the wife had regularly spent time at through her work as a trainer. Familiar with the gym’s current owner and clients, as well as the community, she was thrilled at the prospect of taking on the challenge. But there was only one problem: The financial documents provided by the current owner were lacking the information the couple needed to make an informed offer. Unsure of how to move forward, they reached out to our firm for help. 

After reviewing the documents provided by the current owner, we immediately validated the couple’s concerns and outlined realistic expectations. We gave them tools for having a constructive conversation with the owner, and even helped them explore their own perspectives. Discussions about money are never easy in a marriage, so we helped them focus on facts instead of feelings. 

In the end, the couple was able to articulate their concerns to the owner, who was understanding and responsive. They felt confident enough to make an offer…and recently closed on the purchase! 

With a full understanding of the financial side of their new business, the husband and wife are set to be rock-star owners. They’re thrilled about this new chapter, and we couldn’t be happier to have helped them turn the page.
