Hannah's passion for sharing knowledge and supporting growth helps to propel her clients forward.

Hannah Hugen’s journey into accounting began at age eight, when her mom, an accountant, taught her bank reconciliations at the kitchen table. This early education sparked a passion that led Hannah to become a nonprofit auditor.

Since joining Abdo in 2018, after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa, she has helped hundreds of nonprofits navigate audits, internal controls, and tax preparation, simplifying compliance to secure vital resources. Hannah’s work centers on building trust-based relationships, believing that success comes from solving complex problems and making a real impact.

A lifelong learner, Hannah is passionate about sharing knowledge and supporting growth. Outside of work, she enjoys live music, reading, puzzles, and spending time outdoors. She also serves as Treasurer for a local nonprofit, applying her skills to support its mission.

“Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”

What was your first job growing up?

I worked at the local grocery store running the register. This eventually turned into me helping with the bookkeeping and even operating the meat counter for a while.

What would you be doing if you weren’t an accountant?

Growing up, I was obsessed with designing houses and floorplans on grid paper – even making the houses in the Sims so I could see my designs come to life. So, I’d probably have to say an architect or interior designer.
