Partner Spotlight: Vicki Holthaus

1. What is your name and role at the firm?

My name is Vicki Holthaus and I’m a Partner with the Abdo Financial Solutions team.

2. How long have you been with the firm?

Since 2014.

3. Tell us a little about yourself.

My husband is Karl, he is an equipment manager for a large utility construction company, and our two kids are Cianna and Harley. Cianna was just married and is living in Minneapolis. Harley will graduate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in December. We have a dog named Lucy. She is a Tibetan Terrier, and she has a funny attitude.

4. What do you like to do outside of work?

Spending time with family and friends, traveling, exploring new cities, and trying new restaurants.

5. What would you be doing if you were not an accountant?

As a kid I would play ‘office.’ My mom would buy carbon copy purchase order books for me. One time, my friend’s sister gave us her check blanks that she didn’t use, and we thought it was the best thing ever. We were writing checks to businesses and filling out purchase orders. One year I received an indoor zipline as a gift to use and I would send memos to my niece while we were ‘working.’ Sometimes I think I missed my calling toward marketing and public relations.

6. Little known fact about yourself?

I am the baby of 9 kids! My parents had four boys and four girls – I was the tie-breaker!

7. What is your biggest pet peeve?

A poorly run meeting.

8. What was your first job?

Busser at a restaurant

9. What is something that scares you? 

Snakes, lizards, spiders, …. recently overcame my fear of baiting and taking a (small) fish off the line! Not a fan of slimy creatures, in general.

10. Have you ever met anyone famous?

On a work trip, Brad Falteysek, Jack Abdo, and I came close to meeting Jamie Foxx. Brad tried to meet him, but Jamie Foxx was swept away by airport security.

11. Who is your favorite band?

Fleetwood Mac, Hozier

12. What was the last book you read?

A Pair of Aces by Marie Benedict

13. Who is the greatest influence in your life?

My kids are – I want to be a better person for them. My mom was also a great influence – she was a super kind and generous person.

14. If you could splurge on one item, what would it be?

A condo in Minneapolis. I’d love to work from the office during the week.
