Partner Spotlight: Andy Berg
1. What is your name and role at the firm?
I’m Andy Berg and I’m in the Government segment at Abdo and also lead our audit and attest group. We primarily work with many local governments including cities, schools, charter schools, housing authorities, watershed districts, and counties. I also work in partnership with our Financial Solutions and Workforce Solutions teams on projects for clients.
2. How long have you been with the firm?
31 years
3. What would you be doing if you weren’t an accountant?
If I wasn’t an accountant I would be realtor in Northern MN selling cabins and land. I really do love looking at different properties for sale and exploring the Northwoods.
4. Tell us about yourself!
I’ve been married to my wife Chelsea for 19 years. We have 3 boys, Gavin, Parker, and Blake, and we have two dogs, Ranger and Maizy. When we’re not cheering our kids on in sports, we’re up at the cabin – out on the water, in the woods. Fishing and hunting are my favorite hobbies. When we’re not at the cabin, we also love to travel, especially to the beach.
5. Biggest pet peeve?
I don’t have a lot of pet peeves, but people driving slowly in the left lane and not using their blinkers would be on the list!
6. What was your first job?
Abdo, Abdo, and Eick! I was hired by Jay Abdo. I did landscaping in high school and college if you count that.
7. What is something that scares you?
Spiders, but I’m learning to like and appreciate them – Minnesota has such a variety!
8. Favorite band?
If I had to pick, Counting Crows. I mostly listen to country, but I like all kinds of music.
9. Who was the biggest influence in your life?
Both of my parents, and both sets of my grandparents. They all taught me good values and a strong work ethic.
10. Little known fact about yourself?
I love learning and doing new things outdoors. The last few years mushroom foraging has piqued my interest but have yet to cook any. I am starting to find more and have more confidence, but not sure Chelsea agrees. I have expanded my wild berry picking.
