Government finance: Performance, projects, and presentations

Government Education Seminar

This one-day, practice-focused program equips government employees with the tools to manage performance, deliver projects, steward public funds, and communicate clearly with elected officials. Through case studies and checklists, participants will learn core methods in performance and project management; plan successful software change initiatives; navigate grant accounting and audit basics; understand and explain financial statements; prepare effectively for council meetings; and address pay compression challenges in the public sector.

This session will be geared towards Manager/Director level employees, but all government finance staff may find the information useful and informative. The cost of this event is $20 and will cover the cost of a light breakfast, lunch, and beverages. Participants will be sent certification for CPE following the session.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Analyze emerging governmental accounting and financial reporting developments and explain their significance to organizational operations and oversight.
• Demonstrate techniques for communicating complex financial information to elected officials and other nonfinancial stakeholders.
• Evaluate compensation and workforce management challenges, including pay compression, and determine appropriate responses within budgetary and regulatory constraints.
• Apply audit readiness and grant management best practices to strengthen accountability, compliance, and stewardship of public resources.
• Assess year-end reporting, payroll, and tax compliance requirements and identify actions necessary to minimize risk and improve operational effectiveness
